Queer cultural heritage in the German Digital Library
Queer people have always existed. However, the traces of their lives, sexuality and gender identity have long been concealed and erased from history books, archives and museums. Often it was (and still is) small activist organisations that make queer history visible and preserve it. In our dossier, you will find works by queer artists, learn more about lesbian life in the Weimar Republic and about gender non-conformity. And problematic personalities, such as Gustaf Gründgens, are also part of queer history. Do you have a queer topic that you would like to illuminate with objects from the German Digital Library? Then write to us!
