Werkkommentar: Bildakte handschriftlicher Vermerk von Robert Lebeck: "One of William's most famous images is the one known as "memento mori". The subject is self explanatory, and echoes a preoccupation with the short span of life, and the finality of death. The morbid evalination of the inevitability of death appears as a theme in the literature, poetry and painting of not only Victorian England, but the whole of Europe during the period, and T.R.Williams was obviously influenced by it".
