Panorama Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek

Welcome to the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek (German Digital Library)

17.04.2023

We've done it! We are celebrating a relaunch! What does this mean for our users? We have comprehensively expanded and supplemented the search for cultural objects and cultural and knowledge institutions as well as our editorial offers. A small introduction round follows.

We've cleaned up the new homepage. We present interesting blog articles, provide search tips for you and offer new entries into the contents of the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek with varied dossiers. But more on that later.

A click on the search bar leads to the search mask. New: There are now four different search areas that can be selected. In addition to searching for objects, people and organisations, you can now also search in editorial content such as blog articles, virtual exhibitions, games and image galleries via the "Topics" tab.

Our new search tips give a detailed introduction to the search in the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek: for entry, for schools, for research and outreach or for family research.

Brand new: dossiers, picture galleries and games

In recent years, so many contributions have emerged in which we have presented the variety of cultural objects that we can find and the collections of our partner institutions that we needed a new level of presentation. Now online, we'd like to proudly present: our dossiers. Whether on fashion, food, travel or the history of National Socialism, the division of Germany or on flight and migration – we hope you will find the selection as exciting, informative and/or entertaining as we do.

24 dossiers are now online on the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek

The new dossiers offer you blog articles, virtual exhibitions, picture galleries and new interactive elements – all thematically prepared. When did the Pilgrim Fathers (and Mothers!) sail from Southampton to North America? What exactly does a giant mushroom look like and what instruments do you need for a piano trio? With our games you can test your general knowledge with cultural treasures from the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek. Good luck and have fun!

Our now more than 170 virtual exhibitions will be presented again after the relaunch and can be filtered and searched: by curating institution, by keyword, by topic or division (museum, library, archive, etc.). The virtual exhibitions could not be more different and we would like to invite you to plan many visits

If you have become curious about the new Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek, we do not want to stop you now – have fun searching, browsing and discovering the digital German cultural heritage!
