Die "Sylvarum libri VII", die "sieben Bücher Wälder" von Jakob Balde (1643), des berühmtesten lateinischen Lyrikers des bayerischen Barock, enthalten eine Fülle weltlicher und geistlicher Gedichte, teils im Gewand der idyllischen Hirtendichtung. Das erste Buch "De venatione" ist ausschließlich der Jagd gewidmet. Im dritten Buch übt Balde Zeitkritik, indem er Vergnügungssucht, A-la-mode-Wesen sowie den Sittenverfall seiner Landsleute beklagt. Mit dem Begriff "Sylven" führte Martin Opitz in seinem Buch von der Deutschen Poeterey (1624) einen Oberbegriff für die inhaltlich definierte Gelegenheitspoesie ein, der, angelehnt an die Silvae des römischen Dichters Statius, wie ein Wald viele Bäume so allerlei weltliche und geistliche Gedichte enthielt. Die Bezeichnung "Poetische Wälder" machte Schule und wurde bei der Komposition barocker Gedichtbücher, aber auch als Bezeichnung für ganze Gedichtsammlungen verwendet. // Autor: Peter Czoik // Datum: 2016
Englische Version: The "Sylvarum libri VII", the "Seven Forests Books" by Jakob Balde (1643), the most famous Latin poet of the Bavarian Baroque, contain a wealth of secular and spiritual poems, partly in the guise of idyllic shepherd poetry. The first book "De venatione" is dedicated exclusively to hunting. In the third book Balde criticizes the time by lamenting the addiction to pleasure, a-la-mode creatures as well as the moral decline of his compatriots. With the term "Sylven", Martin Opitz introduced a generic term for the occasional poetry defined by content into his book by the German Poeterey (1624), which based on the silvae by the Roman poet Statius, contained as many worldly and spiritual poems as a forest has trees.
