Guarao (Venezuela, Delta Amacuro) - Rituelle Tänze

Beim Jatabu-Tanz des Najanamo-Festes umtanzen die Männer im Gegenuhrzeigersinn eine in der Kreismitte stehende Frau, vor der zwei Stäbe im Boden stehen, unter Gesang und Musikbegleitung (Klarinette, Kerbflöte, Rasseln). Beim Jabisanaku-Tanz schreiten Männer und Frauen paarweise untergefaßt im Dreiviertelkreis langsam rückwärts.
The film shows the ritual najanamo and jabisanuka dances of the warrau. In the najanamo men sing to the sound of a clarionet and a flute, while they are dancing around a woman, who stands in the middle of the dancing place behind two sticks (jatabu). In the inside of the circle formed by the men a single man dances with a rattle. The Jabisanuka is danced by both sexes. Couples of men and women holding each other around the hips are slowly dancing backwards. From time to time the group stops and one single pair of dancers, of which the man again holds a rattle, is quickly stepping to the center of the circle.
