The research-education nexus. Basic premises and practical application of the "Scholarship" movement

Abstract: The Scholarship of Academic Development and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning are amongst the most controversially discussed concepts in both: recent discourse on university teaching and learning, and recent discourse on professionalization of roles within higher education. Both concepts are based on an approach of educational philosophy stating that researchers can (and should) increase their academic proficiency by systematically reflecting upon their teaching practices and the learning processes they (might) trigger. Both suggest, this should be accomplished in a form that can be publicly reviewed and built upon by peers. Finally, both concepts aim at encouraging researchers to engage in educational research from their specific disciplinary background. Abstract: Das Scholarship of Academic Development und das Scholarship of Teaching and Learning gehören zu den am kontroversesten diskutierten Konzepten sowohl im neueren Diskurs über universitäres Lehren und Lernen als auch im neueren Diskurs über die Professionalisierung von Rollen im Hochschulbereich. Beiden Konzepten liegt ein bildungsphilosophischer Ansatz zugrunde, der besagt, dass Forschende ihre akademische Kompetenz erhöhen können (und sollten), indem sie systematisch über ihre Lehrpraxis und die von ihr (möglicherweise) ausgelösten Lernprozesse reflektieren. Beide schlagen vor, dies in einer Form zu tun, die öffentlich überprüft werden kann und auf der andere Forscher aufbauen können. Schließlich zielen beide Konzepte darauf ab, Forscher zu ermutigen, sich von ihrem spezifischen disziplinären Hintergrund aus in der Bildungsforschung zu engagieren.
