In St. Nikolaus (Ultental, Südtirol) fertigt ein 72-jähriger Wanderhandwerker aus einer Rinderhaut einen geflochtenen Strick für Binden von Heufuder, Holzfuhren usw. Herstellungsphasen: Riemenschnitt, Haaren, Flechten, Einfetten und Recken.
In St. Nikolaus (Ulten, South Tyrol) a travelling craftsman makes from oxhide a plaited cord. The film shows the entire work-process, beginning with the cutting of the hide, the removing of the hair, and the plaiting itself to the greasing and racking of the finished product. Leather cords of this kind were used to bind hay, logs of wood, and other materials during transport.
