Gefischt wird durch eine in das Eis eines Sees gestoßene Öffnung. Beim Fischen mit der Lachsharpune werden Fische durch einen an einer Schnur hängenden Köder angelockt. Erscheint ein Fisch, wird er durch Harpunenstoß erbeutet. Es werden auch Fische mit dem Blinker gefangen.
The film shows Polar Eskimos, fishing salmons through ice-holes on a frozen lake in the Thule-District. For fishing they use two different techniques: The first includes the use of a particular harpoon which is especially designed for that purpose. The fish is attracted by a bait, which was dropped down instead of fish-hook at a fishing rod. As soon as a fish appears, becoming visible through the hole, the Eskimo pushes down the harpoon to pierce the prey. The other method is comparable to the fishing with a spoon bait, which is known as modern fishing technique too.
