Propaganda in the living room
Propaganda was a central instrument of National Socialist rule. The persecution of people of Jewish faith, political opponents, people with disabilities, the sick and other groups required the broad approval of the population. The support of the soldiers and their families was also indispensable for the Wehrmacht's war of aggression: “People's Receivers” [radios from the Nazi period] portraits of Adolf Hitler and swastikas brought National Socialist ideology into every living room. Propaganda and the effects of National Socialist rule on everyday life are juxtaposed in this gallery.
