Under the title #FREIRÄUMESCHAFFEN (#CREATEFREESPACE), the 8th Library Congress will be held at the Congress Centrum Leipzig from 31 May to 2 June 2022, which is also the 110th German Librarians' Day. The industry meeting, which is both a networking and training event with numerous workshops, discussions and lectures as well as a large trade exhibition, is organised by Bibliothek und Information Deutschland (Library and Information Germany) -BID, the Deutscher Bibliotheks- und Informationsverbände e.V. (Federal Association of German Library and Information Associations).

The congress wants to connect the digital with the analogue space: "How we want to fill the open space of libraries must always be explored anew. So #FreiräumeSchaffen is also an appeal to the innovative power of our sector," says Dr Sabine Homilius, President of Bibliothek & Information Deutschland. The partner country of this year's congress is the Czech Republic - its presence at the symposium and trade exhibition also marks the start of a three-year partner country phase between Germany and the Czech Republic.

The Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek will present itself and its services at the industry meeting with an exhibition stand and invites you to two presentations within the congress:

Alan Riedel: "Metadataphilia" or "Actionable Data"? – Mediation approaches for digitised cultural assets
 2. June 2022, 15:00 – 16:00, #Freiraum22

The Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek presents over 40 million objects from all cultural sectors and institutions: Archives, libraries, museums, media libraries, heritage conservation and other knowledge institutions. But how does it become a place that invites a creative, open, sometimes unconventional approach to cultural assets and how can this be implemented? The focus will be on the possibilities of the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek as a place for cultural mediation, and the first results of the project "User-oriented restructuring of the Deutschen Digitalen Bibliothek " will also be presented.
