Allegorische Darstellung der Optik in ovaler Bildform. Im Mittelpunkt eine Frau, die an einem Stapel Bücher lehnt und durch ein Fernrohr schaut. Ihre linke Brust ist entblößt. Um sie herum spielen vier Knaben mit optischen Geräten. Einer zeigt auf eine Schriftrolle mit der Inschrift "PICART PETIT", welche die Frau in der Hand hält.
