Niccolò Strozzis Erbe, Filippo (1428-1491) war einer den reichsten und mächtigsten Bankiers seiner Zeit, der den Bau eines prunkvollen Familienpalastes in Florenz und einer Kapelle in der Florentiner Kirche Santa Maria Novella, geschmückt mit Skulpturen von Benedetto da Maiano, in Auftrag gab. Der Letztere ist auch der Autor dieses Porträts in Terrakotta, gefertigt in Vorbereitung für eine Marmorbüste. Niccolò Strozzi’s heir, Filippo (1428-1491), was one of the richest and most powerful bankers of the time, who sponsored the construction of a sumptuous family palace in Florence as well as a chapel in the Florentine church of Santa Maria Novella, adorned with sculptures by Benedetto da Maiano. The latter is also the creator of this portrait in terracotta, made in preparation for a marble bust.
