Ein Mann schneidet mehrere gleichlange Stücke von einem Palmbaststreifen ab, glättet sie, faltet sie in der Mitte, spleißt sie mit den Zähnen büschelweise auf und macht sie geschmeidig und locker. Vier dieser Büschel legt er dicht nebeneinander um eine Schnur, die er um die Taille gebunden hat.
Strips of palm bast are cut to equal lengths by an Indian and finely spliced in bunches. A loincloth is made in that these bunches are laid close together on a cord which the Indian has tied round his waist.
