Deutsch Romanische Gründung. Reichsstadt. Die Stadtbefestigung im 13./14. Jh verstärkt sowie im 15/16 Jh. Bedeutend erweitert. Sehenswerte Reste und Teile (renoviert) erhalten. Bedeutendes Stadtbild mit Gebäuden der Archtitekturepochen (Romanik-Gotik-Renaissance-Barock) in Fachwerk und Werkstein-Ausführung. Stadtkirche einst mit festem Kirchhof, im 15./16. Jhd. Umgebaut und mit großartiger Freitreppe versehen; Im gotischen Hochchor das ehemalige Beinhaus mit Gebein teilweise freigelegt. Stadt der Salzsieder mit dem Haal. Diese Stadt bietet „drinnen wie draußen“ ein nie endendes interessantes Bild. English The „Salt Town“. Only few other free and imperial towns have been that rich and had so many warfare’s and local trouble with all neighbors like this one. Nevertheless, the Romanesque founded town is a gem of Romanesque and especially Gothic and Renaissance art. The town walls have been constantly strengthened, and still today great parts can be seen with the town wall towers and town gates. The inner city is a fine preserved marvel with houses made of half-timber out from the Gothic and Renaissance, and stone buildings of the Renaissance and Baroque. The town church St. Michaels has had its own fortified cemetery until tremendous changes were done im the 165/16th century. Seen from the innermost details or from the lovely views of the single quarters with the Kocher river in front, this town is also a must see!
