Vorgefertigte Dauben aus Kiefernholz werden zurechtgehobelt, mit Reifen aus Hasel zusammengehalten und mit Hilfe von Feuer weich und trocken gemacht. Dann werden die Böden des Heringsfasses hergestellt. Wenn die Böden eingesetzt sind, befestigt der Böttcher die bleibenden Endreifen aus breitem Bandeisen.
The film shows the handicraft of herring-keg manufacture. The cooper, bökkeren, m., has ready-cut material of pine-wood for staver, pl. (staves), and botnar, pl. (bottoms), and tönneband, pl. (hoops) of hazel (Corylus avellane) or of willow (Salicaccae). He works the material with special tools, bökkerverkty, pl. (cooper's tools). All stages of the cooper's work are shown, right up to the finished keg.
