The interaction of blood proteins and platelets on surface-attached poly (alkylacrylamide) networks : = Die Wechselwirkung von Blutproteinen und Blutplättchen mit oberflächengebundenen Poly(alkylacrylamid)-Netzwerken

Zusammenfassung: We investigated blood protein adsorption and platelet adhesion onto the surface-attached poly (alkylacrylamide) networks that exhibit small, systematic variations of the chemical composition. The polymer coatings were generated by depositing a thin layer of benzophenone group containing copolymer onto a solid substrate, followed by photo crosslinking and simultaneous surface-attachment. These surface-attached networks showed anisotropic swelling that strongly depended on length of the alkyl substituent. A strong correlation between swelling and protein adsorption was observed. The swollen surface-attached layers were found to repel proteins both through entropic shielding or size exclusion and as a consequence repel blood platelets and cells. Our results suggest that the protein repellent coated materials were promising candidates for the generation of hemocompatible surfaces
