Signalhorn

Tonaufnahme

The signal horn from the 1950s was part of the work equipment used by a shunter for the industrial railway at the Henrichshütte Ironworks in Hattingen. It served as a warning horn when trains approached and was also used for communication between the shunter and the signal operator or the train driver. In more recent times, it has found a place as an exhibit in the LWL-Industrial Museum's collection. In order to produce a sound, the shunter blew air into the mouthpiece. The air was directed along a small metal plate, which vibrated in the process. The sound thus generated exited the horn amplified by the trumpet bell.
