Masakin (Ostafrika, Kordofan) - Hirseernte

Sechs Männer ernten gemeinsam ein Durrafeld ab, indem sie die über 2 m hohen Stengel zu sich herabbiegen, die Rispen mit ihren Messern vom Halm schneiden und in Körbe legen. Die Körbe werden von Frauen zu dem ca. 4 km entfernten Stapelplatz gebracht, wo die Rispen vom Besitzer auf quadratischen Gestellen zum Trocknen aufgeschichtet werden. Zwischendurch erhalten die Arbeitenden vom Besitzer Merisa-Bier.
A team of reapers harvest the crop of a millet-field, assembling the cut millet panicles in a heap in the field. Women then carry the millet panicles in baskets to a place where the owner of the crop piles them carefully on square frames to dry. From time to time the owner offers merisa (millet beer) to the workers.
