Harlekingarnele. Die Kopulation kann nur kurz nach einer Häutung des Weibchens stattfinden. Balz: Aufsteigen auf die Schere des Weibchens, Antennenkontakt, Aufklettern auf den Carapax des Weibchens, Kopulation, erneute Balz.
Hymenocera picta, a shrimp of the coastal areas of tropical seas, lives in pairs feeding on starfish. The animals shed their skin every 18 days. The female moulting gives the signal for the male to stark sexual activities. We never had male and female moulting at the same time. Copulation can be preceded by long, drawn-out fore-play (first part of the film) and takes place as the sexual orifices - lying on the belly at the limit of the thorax and the abdomen - are brought into close contact with one another. During copulation the female sits upright whilst the male brings his abdomen under that of the female, lying upside down. Copulation lasts about 30 seconds. The male may start another pairing advance, but the female allows only one copulation.
