Das Bistumsarchiv Hildesheim ist das zentrale "Gedächtnis" der Kirche von Hildesheim. Seine Bestände umfassen derzeit rund 4.000 lfm vom 11. Jahrhundert bis in die Gegenwart. Besonders wichtige Bestandsgruppen: Bischöfliche Kurie, Domkapitel, Bischöfliches Generalvikariat, Bischöfliches Gymnasium Josephinum, Pfarrarchive (281 von ca. 330 Pfarrarchiven des Bistums Hildesheim), Kirchenbücher.
Das Bistumsarchiv Hildesheim hat seine Kirchenbücher im Portal "Matricula" online zugänglich gemacht, Teile seines Urkundenbestands sind im Portal "Monasterium" einsehbar. Demnächst folgt die Onlinestellung der Kirchenzeitung des Bistums Hildesheim für die Zeit von 1851 bis 1960, wie auch ausgewählte Pfarrchroniken online einsehbar gemacht werden sollen.
