El movimiento estudiantil: actualidad y retrospectiva

En este trabajo, el autor aclara que antes de que nos preguntemos que es un movimiento estudiantil, tenemos que conocer la naturaleza de la institución donde aquél nace: la universidad. Desde la Alta Edad Media, comenta, la universidad se ha caracterizado por su estructura corporativa. Esto implica un cierto aislamiento de la universidad respecto al exterior. Además, como una corporación, la universidad significa jerarquía y privilegios. Estos dos elementos pueden llegar a ser peligrosos cuando la universidad es penetrada por los políticos. De hecho, la invasión política de la esfera de la ciencia genera una terrible deformación de la noción de autonomía. Así, jerarquía, privilegios y aislamiento forman una mezcla explosiva: la universidad pierde su naturaleza de fuente de conocimiento, tornándose parcela de corrupción. Ciertamente, una universidad libre no debe divorciarse de la realidad; sin embargo, la interacción y retroalimentación sociales tienen que evolucionar, significando ideas maduras y no anacronismos utópicos. En síntesis, concluye el autor, la universidad tiene que generar confianza social, empezando por ella misma.
Before asking what a student movement is, the author tells us that we have to know the nature of the institution where it is bom: the university.Ever since the High Middle Age, he says, the university has characterized itself for its corporate structure. This implies a certain amount of isolation with the outside. Moreover, as a corporation, a university means hierarchy and privilege.These two elements may be dangerous when the institution is penetrated by politicians. In fact, the political invasion of scientific spheres terribly deforms the notion of autonomy. Thus, hierarchy, privilege and isolation produce an explosive mixture: the university looses its nature as a source of knowledge and turns into a parcel of corruption. Certainly, a free university must not divorce itself from reality; however, social interaction and feedback must wolve, meaning mature ideas and not utopian anachronism, hi short, the author concludes, a university must generate social confidence, starting with itself.
