This ship owned by the waterways and shipping department Bremerhaven is shown on its last trips to make bearings on the Aussenweser before laying up. After lay-days, the two triple expansion steam engines (reverse according to Stephenson) with a capacity of each 220 kW (300 H.P.) and the pertinent ancillary machines are made ready for operations during run-up of the coal fired flame tube boiler. The auxiliary drive and the steering gear are also steam driven. Then the ship leaves the Geestevorhafen in Bremerhaven. Based on commands from the bridge to the engine room, given via machine telegraph, the engine room staff carry out the machine manoeuvre. The film shows primarily the work of the machinist and the stokers. The film closes with shots of the boat at work.
