The film shows the complete action sequence of antler shedding in Red Deer (Cervus elaphus L.) of freely roaming animals. Reactions of balance by the stag soon after shedding the antler as a result of the sudden freedom from weight at its head are demonstrated and, following this, the temporal exclusion of the stag from the herd community. There is now a change in patterns of agonistic behaviour, as threatening with rudimental canines and fighting with fore-legs is practiced in encounters of antler-less stags within their herd.
