Vor mehr als einem Jahrhundert wurde auf dem Kolar Gold Field, Mysore, mit dem großflächigen Abbau von Gold begonnen. Bis zu 36.000 Arbeiter waren in den Minen beschäftigt, die die gefährliche Arbeit auf sich nahmen, um sich ein neues Leben im Camp aufzubauen. Heute sind viele Goldgräber der dritten und vierten Generation nicht nur von Arbeitslosigkeit, sondern auch von Vertreibung aus der Region, die sie sich erschlossen haben, bedroht. Der Film will den Arbeitern von Kolar Gold Field ein Denkmal setzen und ist zugleich eine historische Rekonstruktion ihrer Arbeit, ihrer Kultur und ihrer reichen politischen Traditionen.
More than a century ago, large scale gold mining was begun at Kolar Gold Field, Mysore. At its peak, the mines employed 36.000 workers who braved the dangerous labour and built a new life in the mining camp. Today, many third and fourth generation gold miners face the threat not just of unemployment but displacement from the area they have made their own. This film is a tribute to the "labouring lions" of Kolar Gold Field, a historical reconstruction of their work, culture and rich political traditions.
