The film shows the imaginal hatching of the silphid beetle Necrophorus vespillo from its pupa. It can be observed how the exuvial liquid is gathering below the old exo-sceleton. The mechanism of hatching is shown as well as the stretching of the wings, and part of subsequent scelotisation.
