Periodic ethical report 2

Abstract: This document is the second periodic ethical report of the project XP-DITE. It shows how it was ensured during the second project period that all research within XP-DITE adheres to principles of responsible research. In accordance with the EU Commission's research ethical guidelines, the main part of this document focused on the following three potential topics:
1.Informed Consent for the lab tests and for future passenger studies
2.Data protection issues during the lab tests and for passenger studies
3.Risk of unethical abuse of the technologies developed in the project
For the first two points, i.e. informed consent and data protection, we followed the Ethical Advisory Board’s suggestion and developed a project baseline. This baseline is documented in this report and it is shown how it was ensured in XP-DITE that current research activities involving volunteers and private data meet the requirements of this baseline. Regarding the third point, this document continues reporting on the three minimal research ethical risks that were identified in the last periodic ethical report for the project’s component development activities.
As has been practiced for the last report, the members of the Ethical Advisory Board (EAB) have reviewed and commented on a draft version of this document, especially with regard to the conclusions drawn in XP-DITE's ethical work package on research ethical matters. In case more detailed information was needed on any matter, the EAB was provided with all the information requested. The comments were then included unabridged in Annex C. The resulting document was then submitted as the second periodic ethical report. This process was agreed upon by the EAB in the first project period and can be changed at any time.
For none of the potential issues identified, we foresee a speficic research ethical risk that makes it necessary to either implement mitigation processes or change the research plan. For four of the potential issues identified, we foresee a specifiable, but minimal research ethical risk or adequate mitigation processes are in place. For all other potential issues identified, we do not foresee a plausible research ethical risk
