Validation of automatically processed position data for evaluation of the behaviour of dairy cows

Abstract: Positioning systems are increasingly used for recording individual animal information of dairy cows for scientific purposes. The resulting large amounts of data require a method for data compression. Therefore the aim of the study was to examine a previously developed program for aggregating positioning data, which particularly applies algorithms of cluster analysis. By means of video recordings of the feeding area, the accuracy of the analytical method and its suitability for analysis of the behaviour of cows in a freestall barn should be validated. The duration of stays of the focus cows at the feeding place collected by both techniques differed predominantly less than 10 seconds during the investigation period. The positioning data could be reduced by a factor of 20 by using the cluster analysis. Thus, the analysis of feeding behaviour was relieved. However, a data reduction is always a compromise between practicability and loss of information that can potentially lead to differ.... https://www.landtechnik-online.eu/landtechnik/article/view/79
