Haddad (Zentralafrika, Tschadsee) - Schmieden von Buduma-Schmuck aus Silber

In Bol am Ostufer des Tschadsees schmilzt ein Schmied acht von einem Auftraggeber mitgebrachte Maria-Theresien-Taler zu zwei kleinen Silberbarren um. Aus dem einen formt er auf dem Amboß mit einem Schlegel einen spindelförmigen Halsschmuck mit spiraligen Windungen. Aus dem zweiten fertigt er einen dicken Ring als Haarschmuck. Die fertigen Stücke erhalten in kochendem Wasser mit Kräutern einen hellen Glanz.
At Bol on the east shore of Lake Chad a blacksmith melts 8 Maria Theresa thalers, provided by his customer, and shapes them into two small ingots. On the anvil he then forges one of the ingots with an iron mallet into a spindle-shaped spiral necklace and the other into a head ornament consisting of one thick ring. The finished objects are put in boiling water added with herbs to make them brilliant.
