Am Ende der Fährte einer Steenbok-Antilope errichtet ein Jäger eine Schwippgalgenfalle aus einem armdicken Baum, den er mit einer Leine in Bogenform spannt. Das untere Ende der Leine sichert er in einer Mulde und versieht es mit einem Abzugsmechanismus. Den Rest legt er als Schlinge aus. Am nächsten Morgen findet er eine verendete Antilope in seiner Falle.
A hunter locates the run of a steenbok and blocks all the other passages between the bushes so that the antelope is forced to pass through one place only. After selecting a large, suitable, springy branch, he anchors this in the ground at the passage point. To it he attaches the snare and fastens it exactly in the passage with its loop open and its trigger mechanism set and attached to a peg. The loop is carefully hidden under grass and sand. The next day the hunter finds a dead steenbok in the snare.
