FRED interactive database : = Freiburg Corpus of English Dialects (FRED) - interactive database

Zusammenfassung: To get a first impression of the FRED-S recordings, you can download audio extracts from all 121 FRED-S interviews here. Each extract is 90 seconds in length and available in mp3 format. All audio extracts are anonymised. All person and family names were replaced by beeps.The texts can be sorted by different social parameters of the speakers, such as sex, age and regional background. These filters can provide a first overview of the social texture of the data. For example, for researchers interested in a particular regional variety of English (e.g. English in the North of England), it is possible to only select the interviews from this dialect area and to determine the age distribution of the speakers.Moreover, the database facilitates searching for words across the FRED-S full texts, thus offering a startingpoint for frequency-based linguistic analyses. The data can, again, be filtered with regard to social parameters, which provides the opportunity to explore variation, for instance, in different regional dialects or between female and male speakers
