Bildnis der Elizabeth Lamb, Viscountess Melbourne (geborene Milbanke, 1752-1818) mit Sohn Peniston Lamb (1770-1805). Die Porträtierte sitzt auf einem Stuhl und hat ihren rechten Fuß auf einen Schemel gestellt. Während sie das Kind aus einer mit Kissen und Leinen gebetteten Wiege hebt, hat sie den Blick zum Betrachter gewandt. Im Hintergrund gibt ein hohes Fenster neben einer Wand mit Draperie den Ausblick in eine Landschaft mit einzelnen Bäumen frei.
