Walid Raad produces performances, videos and photographs. He founded The Atlas Group in 1999, a fictitious archive consisting of lectures, documentaries and installations about the civil war in Lebanon. He has thus created an alternative world, although the texts and picture material he employs is in conventional format. This enables Raad to portray the conflict in Lebanon not as a siccession of historical facts but rather as abstract composition of memories and media reports. In The Fakhouri File Walid Raad documents the historical figure of Dr. Fadi Fakhouri, a leading Lebanese historian of the civil war up till his death in 1998, through the medium of notebooks, videos and photographs. Die Arbeiten der Atlas Group waren eine der großen Entdeckungen auf der dokumenta11. Walid Raad gründete 1999 das Kunstprojekt The Atlas Group. Ein fiktives Archiv aus Vor trägen, Dokumentarfilmen und Installationen zum libanesischen Bürgerkrieg. Damit schuf er ein alternatives Universum, bediente sich aber gleichwohl konventioneller Formate der Text- und Bilddarstellung. In dem vorliegenden Band The Fakhouri File dokumentiert Walid Raad mittels Notizbüchern, Videos und Fotografien die historische Figur des Dr. Fadi Fakhouri, einem der führenden Historiker des libanesischen Bürgerkriegs bis zu seinem Tod 1998. Konzeption und Gestaltung des Buches oblagen dem Künstler selbst. Damit erhält es den Charakter eines Künstlerbuches in der Form eines Dokumentarbandes.
