Bibliotheksstärkungsgesetz: Schwache Stärke - starke Schwäche!

Wer ein Haus baut, fängt mit dem Keller an. Das Bibliotheksstärkungsgesetz schraubt am Dach, dabei werden entscheidende Probleme der Statik ausgeblendet. Dennoch hat es eine Stärke: Es erfasst das sich stetig verbreiternde Spektrum der bibliothekarischen Tätigkeiten und stellt Landesmittel hierfür in Aussicht. Die wesentliche Schwäche des Bibliotheksstärkungsgesetzes besteht darin, die Sonntagsruhe der Beschäftigten zur Disposition zu stellen.
Abstract: Building a house has to start at the basement. Yet the new law designed to strengthen libraries is tinkering with the roof, in complete disregard of unresolved statics issues. The legislation has one real strength, though: It acknowledges librarians’ increasingly expanding spectrum of professional activities and tasks, and pledges to provide additional state funds for compensation. On the flip side is a major weakness of the new law - it disregards staff’s need for Sunday rest.
