Palolos, die fertilen Hinterenden des Polychaeten Eunice viridis, schwärmen und werden von Samoanern gefangen. Die Morphologie wird an aus dem Korallenwerk freipräparierten Individuen dargestellt. Weibchen-Palolos entlassen die Eier aus den vorderen und hinteren Bruchstellen, Männchen-Palolos das Sperma aus segmental angeordneten Gonoporen. Mikroaufnahmen von Spermien, Eiern und Teilungsstadien.
The film shows the appearance and several movements of the Polychaete Eunice viridis, the so-called Palolo worm, first during normal times. Then these are shown when the rear section, which later is shed as the Palolo, goes through sexual maturity and the process of epitocal metamorphosis. This is followed by pictures of swarms of palolos, spawning eggs and sperm and finally fertilization of the eggs and the start of furrowing.
