Updated recommendations and guidelines for implementation of legal and ethical aspects

Abstract: The aim of the XP-DITE project is to develop, demonstrate and validate a comprehensive, passenger-centred approach to the design and evaluation of integrated security airport checkpoints (ACPs). This new approach is meant to balance performance requirements from the security domain, operational demands and ethical aspects on the system-level, i.e. with respect to the ACP as a whole. Part of the work is the development of an evaluation framework for the assessment of compliance with requirements related to ethical and societal aspects in ACP screening.
Based on that framework, this document provides updated recommendations and guidelines for ACP design on how to proactively take ethical, legal and societal aspects (ELSAs) into account, i.e. how to select, specify and meet ELSA related requirements during the design of ACPs. We document how these activities can be performed in such a way that ethical and societal aspects can be considered from the beginning in the design process. In short, it documents the project's updated version of how designers can deal with ELSAs in the XP-DITE design approach in order to enable balanced designs
