Dies ist eine der frühesten Kompositionen der Jungfrau und Kind, die in Florenz geschaffen wurde. Der untere Teil wird mit einer liegenden Figur dekoriert, die mit der Darstellung von Eva in den zweiten Bronzetüren für das Florentiner Baptisterium von Lorenzo Ghiberti übereinstimmt. Nach der christlichen Eva war die erste Frau, die gesündigt hat, und Marie die erste Frau ohne Sünde: deshalb werden sie hier wiedervereinigt. This is of the earliest compositions with the Virgin and Child to have been created in Florence. The lower part is decorated with a reclining figure identical with the representation of Eve made by Lorenzo Ghiberti on his second set of bronze doors for the Florentine Baptistery. Eve was the first woman to sin and Mary the first woman without sin: this is why they are here reunited.
