Redefining Library as Culture House: The Missoula Public Library Partnership

Abstract: By combining several community organizations under one roof, the new Missoula Public Library provides a free equitable cultural hub for a region suffering from a dearth of cultural offerings. Located in the heart of a walkable downtown, the library was designed through a community-oriented process with participation throughout the design. Carefully integrated throughout the building, the partner spaces share commonalities of design language to simultaneously provide a cohesive aesthetic and ensure that the identity of each partner shines through.
Die neue öffentliche Bibliothek von Missoula vereint mehrere kommunale Organisationen unter einem Dach und ist damit ein kostenloses und für alle zugängliches kulturelles Zentrum für eine Region, in der es an kulturellen Angeboten mangelt. Die im Herzen der Innenstadt, die fußgängerfreundlich gestaltet ist, gelegene Bibliothek wurde im Rahmen eines Community-orientierten Prozesses entworfen, der den gesamten Entwurf durchgängig begleitete. Die Partnerräume wurden sorgfältig in das gesamte Gebäude integriert und weisen Gemeinsamkeiten in der Formensprache auf, um eine einheitliche Ästhetik zu schaffen, wobei sie die Individualität jedes Partners zugleich sichtbar werden lassen.
