Flore und Blanscheflur : Ms. germ. fol. 18
The manuscript features Flore and Blanscheflur, a courtly romance by Konrad Fleck (first third of the 13th c.). It was written around 1465 in the workshop of Diebold Lauber in Hagenau (Alsace), during the last decade of the workshop. It is still a manuscript on paper yet of a smaller size (28.5 cm × 21.0 cm) than the manuscripts from the heyday of Lauber’s workshop. The most striking feature of this manuscript, however, is that it features spaces for but does not contain any illustrations. In other words, the codex follows the normal production process, in which the text was first copied and the book illumination was added later albeit the latter process was omitted. On fol. 2v there is a note in which Diebold Lauber advertises the books of his workshop. The manuscript was later part of Daniel Sudermann’s (1550–1631) library, a multifaceted educator and book collector of the sixteenth century. He added his name and the title on the first page and also wrote a comment on it, explaining that this romance is an adoption of a French romance.
