Einrichten des Arbeitsplatzes mit dem Aufreihen des Webmaterials auf eine Spannschnur, der Verbindung von Knien und einem Pfosten mit Spannschnüren und dem Einziehen der Kettfäden ins Litzenbündel. Die Fachbildung erfolgt mechanisch mit Hilfe eines Litzenbündels.
The film shows a method of weaving used by the Loma women (at least in Liberia). This technique has rarely been mentioned or described in scientific literature. The material for both, loom and product, consists of raffia (the upper epidermis of the leaves of Raphia vinfera). A bundle of split raffia is used as a kind of heddle. With its help the sheds can be opened mechanically. A circular fabric is thus obtained in which the threads cross each other diagonally in a tabby weave. The initially parallel warp threads are partly drawn through the loops of the heddle and partly used as weft. This way there is no continuous weft. The warp is stretched. The bag ends in at least 3 points (4 to 6 are common). This depends on the number of partitions made of the heddle while weaving. The bags are used to store rice or other dried vegetables and are called bingui in Loma.
