The film shows the hatching of two bustard chicks in the incubator. The hole in the shell made by the egg tooth is systematically enlarged. With jerkey movements, the chick undermines the shell layer until the flat pole of the egg is finally broken off. After a brief pause, during which the exhausted chick lies still, the chick finally slips from the shell. The down layer, which is wet at the beginning, drys within 30-40 minutes and the chick visibly rests and recuperates from the exertions of hatching.
