Abstract: A look at regional employment trends in Germany reveals considerable regional differences. The volume defines the factors underlying these marked regional differences and developments. The author concentrates her research on regional and industry-specific determinants. The econometric analysis is based on three different research questions: What factors impact the growth and cutbacks of jobs? What is the impact of the regional economic structure? What impact do regional and industry specific factors have on company labour demands? The dissertation suggests possible explanations for job developments and offers a basis for economic policies
