Gemälde

Erst zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts wurde das Gemälde auf dem Dachboden eines alten friesländischen Anwesens entdeckt. Als nicht eigenhändige Arbeit Rembrandts schwand das Interesse an dem Fund jedoch schnell, so dass das Bild ins Ausland verkauft wurde. 1926 erwarb es Walter Heilgendorff, der Schwiegervater des Sammlers Kuckei. Stilistisch wie motivisch ähnelt die wohl im engen Umkreis Rembrandts entstandene kleine Tafel zwei zeitgleichen Rembrandt-Arbeiten im Besitz der Gemäldegalerie, dem Raub der Proserpina (Kat.Nr. 823) sowie der Minerva (Kat.Nr. 828 C). _____________________________________________________________________ At the beginning of the 20th century, this painting was discovered in the attic of an old Friesian property. As it was not a work by Rembrandt himself, the interest in the painting waned shortly after its discovery and it was sold out of the country. Walter Heilgendorff bought it in 1926. The style and motive of the small panel, made in the close circle of Rembrandt, resemble two Rembrandt works of the same time in the Gemäldegalerie,the Rape of Persephone as well as the Minerva.
