Perfil das instituições sobre a 'América Latina' no Brasil

This article presents the main results of a basic mapping of the profile of institutional initiatives based in Brazil that make up "specialized fields of production and dissemination of knowledge and information about Latin America" in the country. It takes as object a set of 137 institutional initiatives currently in operation in the country with this primary focus of activity, agenda, project or mission strategy. Taking Bourdieu's notion of "field" as a theoretical and methodological one (1983), one starts from the hypothesis of the existence of a significant field of several types of institutional initiatives in operation in Brazil - with different degrees and forms of “institutionality”, public and private, with various thematic agendas and “interfacialities” in cooperation networks and institutional linkages, including institutions from other countries - that can contribute to regional integration processes in Latin America and the Caribbean in the scientific and cultural dimension, in addition to economic and commercial. The profile of the institutional initiatives as a whole was mapped according to the following aspects: i) year and decade of creation, ii) type of organization and institutional structure, iii) nature (public and private), iv) distribution by state and region in the country, v) knowledge areas and subareas, vi) areas and subareas of the social sciences.
