Media files in the DDB

Workshop with lectures and plenty of time for discussions 
From the digitale catalogue to the digital library: direct access to content in the DDB

Up to now the DDB has essentially been a portal providing information through which digital content could be found, but not directly displayed. From the user perspective it is a fundamental expectation to be able to view the digital objects directly in the DDB portal. In this session the previous developments and the current considerations in this area will be presented and discussed and supplemented by external impulses.

Bringing together and linking digital cultural heritage: challenges and solution approaches for better metadata

This session provides an insight into the DDB’s challenges to link the databases from different sectors and to make them retrievable centrally. We present the path of the metadata from the collection systems up to the culture portals and enlarge upon individual aspects of standardisation, such as exchange formats and standard data.

Use and Transfer of Data

Keynote speeches and concluding discussion
Digitised and what then? - creative applications of and new publication channels for cultural data
New formats of communication, publication channels and innovative applications are necessary for digitised cultural heritage from the collection systems and repositories to be activated in such a way so that target groups in areas such as education, science or the creative sector can use the data in a productive manner. After four groundbreaking projects have been presented we will discuss what the suppliers and aggregators of cultural data can do to ensure the widest possible distribution and use of their data.

How the data get into the DDB: background and practical tips
We will be looking behind the scenes at the work of the specialist departments and explaining the workflows of data ingestion in the DDB. Practical tips and tools such as, for example, different mapping tools will be subsequently presented.

The Service Centre of the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek and DDB aggregators that are already active present their current aggregating cooperation. In this process there will be particular emphasis placed on the different types of aggregators and their respective range of tasks.
