Gelsenkirchen was not my first love...

Gelsenkirchen was briefly the talk of the town internationally: a New York Times reporter didn't have a good word to say about the city during the 2024 European Championships. The "city of a thousand fires", as the once most important coal-mining town in Europe was also known, is not only home to FC Schalke 04, but also offers Horst Castle and much more. Anyone interested in soccer, art and old heavy industry will find what they are looking for in Gelsenkirchen.
