In this section, we aim to shed some light on the objects that can be found in the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek (DDB) by looking at sample search terms that will be changing regularly.

200 years ago, on December 20, 1812, the first copies of the "Children's and Household Tales" by the Brothers Grimm were published. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm edited the collection of fairy tales, which is today considered to be the most successful book in German language, from 1812 to 1858.

During their participation in the romantic song collection Des Knaben Wunderhorn (1805-1808) by Achim von Arnim and Clemens Brentano , the brothers Grimm had begun to collect stories. The first volume of the collection of fairy tales was published on December 20, 1812. The preface to this edition states: "Maybe it was time to record these tales, because less and less people are there to safeguard them...” The success proved him right: Grimm's fairy tales have been translated into 160 languages, they are among the best known and most widely read books of German heritage. The Kassel-hand copies of the Children's and Household Tales have been declared a UNESCO Memory of the World document in 2005.
