The Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek at the Leipzig Book Fair 2017
From 23 to 26 March a total of 2,100 exhibitors will present themselves to around 260,000 visitors in over 3,200 events at the largest German public fair, the Leipzig Book Fair. The largest reading festival in Europe in the past 25 years, “Leipzig reads” rounds off the visit to the fair: on 571 stages and places 3,300 authors and contributors tempt you to read and listen in over 3,000 events. This year’s focus is on the country of Lithuania: Literature and Poetry from Central Europe. Europe’s past and present come up for discussion in this year’s focus country’s comprehensive programme, which provides insights into Lithuanian literature, culture and society in around sixty events. Among other things, the Lithuanian point of view in the European dialogue is examined as, for example, in the discussion on the socialist past in Lithuania and Germany.
After two very successful years we are now an exhibitor in Leipzig for the third time: with a diverse programme and stand, themed tours for schoolchildren and a lecture on the Music Teachers’ Day.
The exhibition stand
We look forward to your visit at Stand G 500 in Hall 5! We will inform you about current project progress, our latest data partners and virtual exhibitions. We will show you how to do research on the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek’s portal and what you can find there. As in last year our colleagues from Archivportal-D, the sector-specific access to the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek’s archival information, will be there and present themselves and the portal.
Frank Frischmuth, Manager of Finances, Law, Communication at the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek, will be on site on Thursday 23 March to answer the questions of interested visitors.

Themed tour “Digital Media”
The Leipzig Book Fair is in the process of establishing a new format which is particularly aimed at schoolchildren: on Thursday 23 March and Friday 24 March so-called themed tours will be offered for school classes. In the course of these the schoolchildren will complete small tasks at three to four stations on the basis of a predetermined route. In doing so it should be possible for them to gain a structured insight into the Leipzig Book Fair.
On the themed tours the schoolchildren will explore the fair independently. At the themed tour stations they should solve problems where the correct answers should lead to a solution (word) and, if they are lucky, to a prize.
The Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek is taking part in the themed tour “Digital Media” for school classes in Years 9-12. The questions and answers will involve doing research on the DDB’s portal, but also on assessing and evaluating the results, for example referring to the potential for re-using the information gained.

Music Teachers’ Day
On Friday 24 March the Music Teachers’ Day will take place for the second time, hosted by the Leipzig Book Fair and MDR Klassik (radio programme). Under the motto “There’s music in it!” new and interesting information, particularly for music teachers, is offered in the areas of music, school and mediation in lectures and workshops of 30 to 60 minutes. In the series “Focus EDUCATION – Programme for teachers and pre-school teachers” the Deutsche Digitale Bibilothek is holding a lecture which is specifically aimed at music teachers and which introduces the audio materials on the Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek’s portal:
