The competence network, which consists of three bodies - the General Assembly, the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees - is responsible for the development and expansion of the German Digital Library. When it was founded, the network consisted of 13 cultural and knowledge institutions, but will be increased to 15 over time to support the German Digital Library project.
Strengthening and networking the museum and archive sectors
The inclusion of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin and the Deutsches Museum in Munich strengthens the museums section of the competence network. As the largest institution of the Leibniz research museums, the Deutsches Museum is an outstanding representative of the technology museums, has a high profile in the field of digitization of objects and has a wealth of experience in the networking of relevant research data.
The Museum für Naturkunde Berlin is one of the most important German museums in this field and brings valuable perspectives with its strong focus and successful initiatives in the areas of knowledge transfer and citizen science. In addition, the advanced development of the research data infrastructure, including the standardization and interoperability of the Museum für Naturkunde's data, is of particular interest to the German Digital Library.
As a municipal archive with a strong regional network, the LWL Archive Office for Westphalia complements the archives section of the competence network. It brings together the archive of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe, the branch office of the Westphalian Economic Archive, the Westphalian Court and Family Archives and the Literature Archive.
The German Digital Library is delighted about the new addition and looks forward to working with you!
