Shots of the gravid uterus on the 25th, 28th, 29th and 30th day of gestation at normal speed give the impression that the uterus is at rest. With slight time acceleration, however, local contractions of the myometrium are perceptible in many places. On the day before birth these contractions intensify. They are now clearly coordinated, embrace a largish region and are usually propagated over one or two of the foetal chambers.
