Verzerrungen von Konsumentenpreisindizes und ihr Einfluss auf das reale Wirtschaftswachstum: Dargestellt am Beispiel der USA

Der Aufsatz gibt einen Überblick über die Quellen von Verzerrungen des US-amerikanischen Konsumentenpreisindexes (CPI) nach oben und unten und diskutiert die Massnahmen, die das Bureau of Labor Statistics ergriffen hat, um sie zu beseitigen. Die verbliebenen Verzerrungen werden quantifiziert. Weiterhin wird die Frage aufgeworfen, um wie viel die Veränderungen in der Berechnungsweise des CPI die Wachstumsraten des realen US-Bruttoinlandsprodukts angehoben haben. Es erweist sich, dass die Divergenz in den Wachstumsraten der USA und der EU seit 1997 fast zur Gänze auf unterschiedliche Berechnungsweisen zurückgeführt werden kann.

The remaining biases are quantified. Also, the question is raised how much the changes to the CPI have lifted the growth rates of real US-GDP upward.
